Creation Care
CBF considers caring for the Earth and its resources an important aspect of our Christian mission. We encourage churches to join us in practicing good creation care and helping to build a safer and cleaner environment for all. One important way churches caqn do this is by celebrating Earth Day on April 22. The following are important creation care and Earth Day resources for both congregations and individuals:
The Center for Christian Ethics at Baylor University dedicated one issue in its "Christian Reflection" series to Creation Care,
Moral Landscape of Creation. This issue contains articles, artwork, study guides, and worship resources designed to "lead us to see ourselves as creatures responsible to one another and toward the earth."
The
Regional Council of Churches of Atlanta promotes congregational participation and advocacy for Earth Day. Its Web Site offers many resources for projects, sermons, and information.
Earth Gospel: A Guide to Prayer for God's Creation is a new resource from Upper Room books, written by Samuel Hamilton-Poore. It is a guide for exploring the interconnecting love that binds together God, humankind, and creation through four weeks of prayer, scripture meditation, and reflection. The resource offers a way to actually do something about protecting the environment through a daily practice of prayer for the earth.
