LaCount Anderson

Location: Eastern N.C.

Hometown: Savannah, Ga.

Commissioned: 2009

LaCount Anderson is being the presence of Christ in his own “backyard” in eastern North Carolina. And he wants to help churches do that, too.

LaCount’s ministry is based from his home in Scotland Neck, N.C. , in rural Halifax County.  The area is among the state’s poorest, and LaCount sees that firsthand from his work with addicts at a local psychologist’s office, where he meets with clients once or twice per week in group counseling.   “We’re on the frontlines with people who are desperate and need help. I see miracles here every day, and I see God impact somebody’s life.”

LaCount is busy expanding the ministry to include partnering with a women’s homeless shelter and recovery program in Enfield, N.C., and cultivating a community garden that will supplement what the local food bank already provides to the area’s neediest people. Through his ministry, LaCount hopes to engage local and regional churches in poverty ministry “in their own backyards,” he said. “I want them to know they don’t have to go far to make a real difference.”
